Obvs, Ozzie doesn't deep throat!

I've been slightly preoccupied all day. I have an oral surgery exam tomorrow, which I could honestly care less about, an ortho final on Thursday (ditto), and an endo exam on Friday (double ditto). You see, I had a conversation this afternoon that rivals any conversation I've ever had. Been reassessing my life all day. Dental school will have to wait. It's been one of those weekends.

Earlier this week I started my first molar root canal. Check that, my first root canal. I enjoyed it (sounds weird, doesn't it...), and look forward to doing a ton more. I think dentists charge somewhere between $600-1000 per root canal, (+) roughly the same for a full coverage restoration (crown), depending on the difficulty, so someday I might be able to pay back a fraction of my loans. I plan on keeping both of my kidneys, take that Zo.

I'm sick of this whole Ozzie vs. Mariotti thing. Face it, people call each other fags...it's part of our culture. I don't think Ozzie hates gay people, I just think it slipped out. Get over it, move on... Mariotti is a douche...that would have been a better term to use.

Caught The Stills at Intonation yesterday and was totally blown away. Great stage presence, good music, and a fair amount of cowbell. High on Fire and the Boredoms were absolutely worthless...terrible bands. You couldn't pay me to see them again. Ghostface did not disappoint. Dude brought 50 scantily clad women on stage with him during his set. Cocaine, crazy drug. I was so whipped by 8 p.m. last night that I didn't even stay for The Streets. I'm not a huge fan, so I'm sure I didn't miss much...

I've been blogging on myspace a little, but I think i enjoy blogger a bit more. If i can manage to get back in the habit of daily updating all of you wankers as to the progress of my life, I think i'll be a happier person.

This is pretty much me, right now. I really recommend the Octoberman jam. If you haven't checked him out, do yourself a favor and figure it out. God damn Canada. Must be something in the water.

Well, well, well. It's been a while kiddos. I'm sure no one really reads this blog anymore, but in a ridiculous attempt to put my life back together, I've decided to start blogging again. Recent life alterting activities lead me to believe that this will be good for me...so without further edu', lets get to it.

I've got a ton of patients at the D-school right now. Mostly nasty people with a few teeth left, but I've got some descent mouths to work on too. Guy comes in last week complaining of tooth pain, and has one of his lower incisors held in place by calculus. Lets call it a calculus bridge.....riiiiight....

The MLB draft finished earlier this week, and boy oh boy did the Cubs blow it. Their first round pick is seen by many as a wasted pick, and they drafted Jeff Samardzija who will almost assuredly play in the NFL someday. I often hear cubs fans complaining about the team, but they fail to remember that it starts from the bottom up. The cardinals had a descent draft, and went RP happy in the middle rounds. Looks like they're preparing for life after Izzy.

Â The word is that the Cubs will give Notre Dame RHP -- and star wide receiver -- Jeff Samardzija whatever it takes to get him signed. Years back, Gary Hughes, now a special assistant with the Cubs, drafted and signed John Lynch for the Marlins. Lynch got to Double-A, only to turn his sole attention to the NFL. This will be a fascinating story.

Speaking of drafts, Tyrus Thomas could be the first pick in the upcoming NBA lottery. God I hope the Bulls don't manage to get this guy....really do...

Is Jason Grimsley's use of human growth hormone a big deal? I think it is. If some mediocre middle reliever is using the shizz, then i'm sure everyone is. Albert Pujols, you are not exoneratedd (sad face).

Snow Patrol (yankers) are playing at the Vic this weekend. I'm not really excited about their new album, after a few listens, but would consider going to see The Duke Spirit (kind of like The Kills). It's all good, welcome me back biotch.

Unfortunatley, I had to tell the guy that we were going to pull all of his teeth and give him a cheap-o set of dentures. I'm guessing that was the least of his worries, and he was super stoked to get some new chompers...rock....

Caught the Arrested Development finale tonight and cried a little bit at the end...gonna miss that one. Speaking of TV, the OC has gone straight to hell. Fast. Like Terri Hatcher fast... Holly random introduction of marginally interesting characters Batman. Thursday's episode was worthless and I couldn't help but watch the onslaught of shit that Fox threw at me. They totally ignored the Seth/Pot story plot and I was pissed... What happened to our sweet little hip, music friendly show. Not even the super-hero that is Sufjan Stevens could save an episode where no one seemed to care that their best buddy, six episode Johnny, died. Worthless I tell you. If you still watch the OC, I know you are angry like me, and it's going to be ok....Dancing with the Stars is still rockin' strong.

Been riding my bike a ton lately and I'm getting ready for weather that isn't in the 20s....should be great....hopefully I can start blogging more, but I can't make any promises as I'm a very important person... :) More important than you...that's for damn sure...

Ahhhh…the Grammys. Time for all the stars in music to get together for some really god awful collaborations, five trophies can get mercifully handed over to U2 and Kanye West can get screwed out of another Album of the Year. Yes, he deserved it more so than the other crap that was up for it.

In case you missed it: John Legend took a couple, Kelly Clarkson represented American Idol by grabbing two for her mantle, one of which will probably go to Simon, and Madonna looked like a worn-out slut, but what’s new.

Speaking of American Idol, there is a guy from my town down here in NC who made it into the top 24. Whoop-t-shit. Guess he’s quite the douchebag around town, go figure.

U2 walked away with album of the year. Kanye will surely start up his “I got screwed at the Grammys” shit, pronto. Fiona Apple showed up and looked like a ghost. Lay off the smack Ms. Apple. And Sly Stone was honored with one of the dumbest tributes ever, funked up.

Not to be out done by the mix-up of Jay-Z, Linkin Park and Sir Paul McCartney was something. Not sure what to make of that. So glad Jay-Z took off making albums to sing “Yesterday.”

Finally, my world has calmed down post being punched in the face. Kenny, AKA grandpa, and I are going down to Columbia, S.C. and kicking the shit out of that cheesedick bouncer. Then grandpa is going to nail that little bitch that said I grabbed her ass while I tape it for the blog...that is, if grandma is cool with it.

Wow, the O.C., the fuckin O.C. What a joke it has become. Ryan and I have watched it and still do, but Jesus H Bad Storyline, it's gone too far. Get this, Seth (one of the main characters, real life Adam Brody) smoked MARIJUANA and missed his Brown college interview. Doubt that many Califorians want to go to Brown and the whole process of his roast session was borderline retarded. He’s walking down the boardwalk when he runs into the new, bad girl character. She’s smoking what looks like a cigarette, oh wait, it’s not! Seth questions her, blah blah. She offers as her sister (Miesha Barton) shows up. Older sister doesn’t smell anything, nor does she say anything. Cut to Seth in his room with a towel under the door.

Our little sister Kelly said she about cried.

Getting punched in the face was a lot like, well, getting punched in the face. It happened so fast and the blood alcohol level was through the roof, which is probably a good thing, or it might have hurt even more at the time. If anything it made for something to blog about.

Here are a few things learned from taking a shot (as in, someone's fist) to the face:
1. Getting punched in the face ISN'T as cool as you'd think it would be. Yeah it looks cool on TV and shit, but it's not quite the grand time you'd think it is. All you badasses out there know it.
2. South Carolina is for incest, rednecks and general bestiality.
3. Scabs falling off while you eat take-out lo mein is not cool.
4. Teeth are sensitive and worth keeping around. Even tough my white ass would look nice with a diamond grill like the rappers have.
5. People will give you all kinds of shit if your lip is busted up, including, but not limited to: Hey Rocky! What happened to your face? Look out dude, a bouncer. Your face actually looks better.
6. Nothing like the taste of blood while you shower.
7. Yelling at cops is probably always a bad idea and a quick ticket to jail (in most cases).
8. Drunken call logs on the cell phone from the night before tend to get lengthy. Ryan the next day: "Yeah, you called me like three times yelling about how somebody just punched you in the face."
9. Maybe it's time I stop acting like a fool on my birthday.
10. If that bouncer ever comes around, he's going down in a pile of his own puke and blood, maybe even urine, while gramps hits that little liar whore, per grandma’s approval. You can bank on some videos.

What a birthday. Went to Columbia, S.C. and had a good time watching football (hell yes the Panthers lost!) and enjoying free birthday drinks. Then we went to some swanky, well not really swanky, but lame....very lame yes, place called “Good Company." Let me tell you, it’s not so “Good” and the “Company” can suck it.

We walked to the back of the bar and turned around. Walking the other way when next thing I know, some fratty bouncer punched me in the face. A little hoe-bag of a waitress said that I grabbed her ass, which I didn’t, and this jerk-off goes off and sucker punches me. Always hoped that my first shot to the face would come in S.C. where, yes Dorthy, people are very stupid, are missing teeth and probably sleep with their sisters.

Got back up, yelled in his face and was kicked out. 1 point for Kyle! Cops pulled up, yelling, bad. So, fast-forward two days and you have a bruised lip and plenty of jabs from co-workers.

Can’t do anything legally due to blood alcohol issues and probably never will go back to that hillbilly ass town again. If you go there, boycott “Good Company," hell, throw a brick through their window.

Spurrier and the USC Gamecocks are on my shitlist.

Probably SHOULD have grabbed that girl’s ass since I took a punch for it.

Hope everyone had a nice weekend. My/Our birthday went well. Mere and I went out to dinner with some friends on Friday night to celebrate and then made the obligatory pilmigrage to Goose Island to slam back some brew-dogs. Good times.

Well, well, well. Another birthday, another liver-blast fest as Kyle heads to Columbia, S.C. with the tard girl from work (she’s not really THAT bad, but it works better to just rip on her) and her boyfriend. She’s dumb, he’s dumb and who cares. Booze, booze, booze and more booze will be had by all in Spurrierland Sunday.

Work’s been a chaotic mess. People coming, people leaving, egos clashing and attitudes upon attitudes. Clocks ticking on my NC stay…

We’ll be watching the Panthers Sunday, which sucks. Panther mania has swept the Carolinas. Every redneck seems to care now and the millions of those rednecks (with a total of 12 teeth) have chosen Steve Smith as the greatest player ever. Puke, puke, double puke because it should be the Bears. Hopefully Seattle takes care of business. Rumors of Shaun Alexander calling Charlotte home next year since he is tight with Ken “Give me my money” Lucas are surfacing.

Salukis dropped two in a row after inching closer to the top 25. If they would have won those two games, we’d be talking about the nationally ranked Salukis on Monday. Break a brother’s heart. Indiana is coming together and striving in the Big Ten despite injury woes. Want injury issues? Check out the Charlotte Bobcats. Or Shitcats as we refer to them in the newsroom.

Cat Power - The Greatest

From Wikipedia: The daughter of divorced parents, Chan (pronounced "Shawn") Marshall was born in Atlanta, but moved to New York City after dropping out of high school, where she began playing shows under the name Cat Power. While opening for Liz Phair in 1994, she met Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth and Tim Foljahn of Two Dollar Guitar, who encouraged her to record, and played on her first two albums, 1995's Dear Sir and 1996's Myra Lee. In 1996 she was signed to Matador Records, and released her third album, What Would the Community Think, which spawned a rare single and music video, "Nude as the News".

Lots going on in my world that I haven't been able to write about here. Kyle and I share a birthday. It's Sunday. Dental School is still hella lame, the Bulls/Bears/Blackhawks are worthless, and it's cold in the Midwest. That about sums it up.

Speaking of the Bulls, I'm fairly sure none of you watched the Bulls/Knicks game last night, but some a-hole in the stands threw a beer at former Bull Antonio Davis' wife. So god ole' AD runs out into the stands and defends his woman. Snaps for AD. Woulda done the same thing hommie. Eddy Curry made his fat-return to his hometown and almost died on the court. Called it months ago.

Pitchfork nailed the Strokes review. The album sucks. Sorry kiddos. Last month I was listening to a Q101 interview with the Strokes and the guys totally blew off the DJ (they were actually pretty rude), so they are on my shitlist for the new year. Dickbacks they are.

Jeffrey Foucault is starting to gain a little "hype" here in the blog world, and I couldn't be happier. Great tunes, that guy. Bladdhow...

My old Shure E2s spunked out again, so the good people at Shure hooked me up with the E3s. Great company, can't reccomend them enough.

For all of you Sopranos fans, check out the local Chicago papers over the next few weeks. The Feds recently nabbed Joey the Clown, reputed mob boss. Dude had serious clout back in the day and was apparently a stone-cold killer. They make movies about guys like this. Crazy.

Tons of Chicago music has been floating around the internet as of late and I'd like to throw another worthy band's hat into the ring of Chi-town supremecy. The Bound stems are made up of four high school friends and one guy who played in Harvey Danger. It's weird pop, think goofy Arcade Fire minus the 42 people on stage. Some people liken them to the Fiery Furnaces, but I just don't see it. Whatever. Pitchfork recenly gave them a desce' review (EP), and they are Spin's band of the month for Febuaray. Groovy. From their EP The Logic of Building the Body Plan, which I think is a great title, enjoy:

Freakin Bears. Overachievers? Probably.

Tough game to watch in NC, and it's going to be a long-ass week of hearing shit from some stupid bitch at work who thinks she knows a little something about football. She’s also a Panthers fan.

I blasted a Charlotte columnist this week on his blog feedback tell him all about the Monsters of the Fall-Down-on-Defense. Who’s eating it now Tom Sorrenson? Yes, sir, I am.

Talked up the Bears quite a bit here in the Tar Heel state and their defense called it in. Big props to the Panthers, they had a great game plan and destroyed Lovie's cover 2. Secondary was hurtin for a squirtin, but how in the name of all that is holy Bo Jangles does Steve Smith get THAT wide open. Put Smith on a spy team, he’ll find Osama. Dude can get behind coverage. Fantasy stud for me this year that he was, he’s an Assclown when it gets down to it.

Been listening to Damien Marley/Silver Jews/Madlib lately. Doesn’t take away the pain of the NFC 2 seed getting bounced.

Mogwai is a Scottish post-rock band formed in 1995 that has become one of the most influential and best known post-rock bands. They compose lengthy instrumental guitar-based pieces in the post-rock tradition, usually focused around the elaboration of a single theme. Mogwai are named after the creatures from the film Gremlins, although Braithwaite comments that "it has no significant meaning and we always intended on getting a better one, but like a lot of other things we never got round to it." [1].
The next Mogwai album is due in March 2006, it is titled Mr. Beast and apparently is a return to the heavier sounds of 1997's [Mogwai Young Team].

Hello, hello, hello to the three faithful readers, Season’s greetings from N.C. It’s not really that cold here, so if you are freezing your ass off from the nasty winter weather, sucks to be you. It got down to 40 today, people freaked out. Great weather, dumb people.

Above is a picture of the 2005 model of the bike ordered by your's truly (pick it up the 26th). The paint job is different on the 06, but it is one sweet ride nonetheless. The damn thing is worth more than the Buick.

Not much new on my front that I can blog about regarding work. If I see you over Christmas, you can hear all about it. Just make sure you have plenty of time and plenty of booze. Speaking of Christmas, flying out of Raleigh on the 23rd into the Chi city where Ryno and I will then proceed to drink Chicago’s supply of Goose Island beer and freeze our dangles off. God it’s going to be/already is cold up there. Be in Effingham/Newton the 24/25, but sadly have to fly out Monday night.

Saluki football’s season ended at Appalachian State last weekend. Joel Sambursky (the QB) lost the game by gift-wrapping two picks, which lead to 10 Mountaineer points. The Dawgs are struggling on the hardwood, too. Could be a long year in the Valley. Oh what’s that? Yeah UNI did beat Iowa and Indiana fell at Indiana State, all on the same mother flippin day. Big Ten? Big Weak Sister!

Drove down to Charlotte to see the Panthers kill the demon that is Michael Vick. Vick had beaten the Panthers 5 times since joining the league and Sunday the Cats played like someone shit in their cheerios. Great game, Carolina might have a shot at the Super Bowl if they can get past DA BEARS!

Orton is a giant toolbox (albeit he’s won 8 straight) and if he fails to win in Pittsburgh this weekend, bench his candy ass and put in RexMan, hell put in Urlacher. *Cheese TV voice: Hello, I’m the president of the “Bench Orton Fan club” our motto is “Winning 8 in a row really isn’t a big deal.”*

Ah The Darknes...Sure they really don't have much talent (except for the rip-snortin solos the guitarist belts out), but they sure are fun, well kind of fun at least. Here are a few tracks off the new album "One Way Ticket to Hell and Back" so crank it up to 11 and pretend that big hair and coke were still fashionable. The first track "One Way Ticket" starts out with flutes and awes, majestic really, rolls into some cutting sounds, sniffing sound and then bursts into a rift that could only come from THE DARKNESS!

Listening to the falsetto voice of lead singer Justin Hawkins is a guilty pleasure. Is that cowbell I hear? Everything needs more cowbelll. The Darkenss are similar to watching a train wreck, car accident or cows having sex in an open field: You just can't look away. Other songs include the ever enjoyable "Knockers", who don't love some knockers, to the track "Dinner Lady Arms," what the hell does that mean? Just tell me that "One Way Ticket' isn't catchy.

Nice story about Mr. Hawkins:
The Darkness' vocalist Justin Hawkins became an amphibian midwife during an educational visit to the Norfolk Broads. Whilst urinating behind some bushes, a spherical object fell from a leaf and rested on the shaft of his man-member. To his horror, the object wobbled before what appeared to be a frog-like creature with a long tail hatched from within it. The reptile accepted Justin as her mother, and denied the Hawkins' family's attempts to introduce her to the wild. The scaly infant would look at Justin and exclaim "You are the one that I want." Not soo fast....

Those who know me well know that I'm completely and utterly obsessed with fantasy sports. Now that the football season is wearing down, I'm immersed with my basketball teams (three if you're counting at home). Fear not, though, there are still the NFL playoffs and I plan on making a serious run at mediocrecy. I made a bold move last week and acquired the infamous Terell Owens via a ridiculous trade. Earlier today I was excited to see initial reports stating that Owens would be released by the Philadelphia Eagles, could it get any better?. Much to my schagrin, the arbitrator ruled in favor of the Eagles (heh?) and Owens will miss the rest of the season. On a personal level, I completely agree with the arbritrator's ruling and think that Owens is the worst thing since cancer, but on a fantasy level, I was floored. My season is effectively over. Damn. I even had my Terell Owens Houston Texans jersey on pre-order. So much for that.

I think I'll start working in more of a fantasy basketball edge to the blog and try to tone down the music for a while. Music takes a lot of time to put together, and time is not one of my excesses. Dental school has gotten completely out of control and I'm currently working on six different projects. You don't really care about that, so lets just say that I'm swamped.

Lets look at some headlines:

ESPN Insider is reporting that the Bulls are interested in Kevin Garnett. Thank God. This years team is boring as hell to watch and has little veteran talent. Now if they could just move Ben Gordon in a package deal and bring in Peja next year, they might make a title run. Schwing. In HBO news, Deadwood won't be back on the air till June. Sopranos through March should be a solid send off to a revolutionary…ehh strong word…. television show. My mouth is watering in anticipation of the return of Tony, but mostly I’m drooling about Meadow. Rome ended Sunday. Caesar died, Mark Anthony is a bad ass, Brutus is a bitch etc. Why do people in Rome have British accents? Quite the violent show, which is a nice change from the rest of the violence on television. Nothing like seeing a man get his head bashed into concrete or having his fingers cut off.

Dig the Cold Rain, Brazil is kind of annoying. Sounds exactly what you'd expect from the AF.

Blogroll: A long list of links that nobody will ever click on. Bloggers not only link to their friends and fellow bloggers, but their eventual goal is to link to every linkable document on the Internet. Thankfully, since most blogs are shallow in content, it won't take you long to load, and in turn, to close the browser quickly if you're duped into clicking one of these links. Blawg: Some prick thought it would be clever to spell "blog" phonetically using the word "law" in the title. It's a phrase used to describe blogs primarily dealing with the law and legal issues. Wow, real clever, dipshit. How did you come up with that one?

Blogumentary: There was recently a bit of a feud regarding this word among two bloggers. Apparently some guy decided that they had exclusive right to use the word, not realizing that similar words (docudrama, dramedy, rockumentary, etc) have been free to use for all people since you can't just copyright an entire genre, and more importantly, that it's stupid. Who cares? Blogumentary? Really? Eat shit you morons.

Blogebrity: Wow, guess what this one stands for? Too easy. Hey, anyone can do it: take a blogger who's a chef, and you get: BLEF. A blogger who's a dentist? BENTIST. A female blogger with an itch? You guessed it: a BITCH.

Photoblog: Photoblogs make me yearn for the day when cameras weren't digital, film cost money, and it took time to develop pictures. I remember back when it wasn't easy for any random asshole with a camera to go out take countless pictures of nothing. Nothing is exactly what these pictures are of. No focus, no theme, no message, no posturing. Just countless pictures of Denny's at 2 AM. We don't care that you went to Denny's. You're not an artist. You're not deep. Get a new hobby.

Podcast: Someone had the revolutionary idea of taking a compressed audio file and putting it online. Yeah, doesn't sound so sexy when I describe it for what it is, does it you morons? It would have been a great idea if streaming audio wasn't already around for over a decade before the word "podcast" entered the lexicon. Man, I can't stand the word "lexicon." Talking about all these shitty words has made me start using shitty words. I'm so pissed, I just slammed the door shut on some kid's nuts.

Podcasting: It's snob for "streaming audio."

Podcatcher: Any idiot with an iPod, web browser, or ears.

Warblog: A blog that primarily deals with war. Filled with whiny blow hards who are fixated on their stubborn ideas and conspiracy theories. For example, there are countless hours pissed away by conspiracy theorists who think the WTC towers were demolished by bombs planted by the government. These armchair engineers write endlessly about how the physics of the collapse was impossible, how the temperature wasn't hot enough to melt steel, and how the planes were carrying missiles. Of course, the one thing they don't postulate is a REASON.

My personal favorite warblog was one that had a flash animation with people who were quoted as saying "it didn't sound like a plane to me... it sounded like a missile." Thank you Joe Nobody for giving me your expert opinion on what missile sounds like, because gas station superintendents are usually the best people to ask about the sonic signature of ballistic missile thrust.

Warblogger: Like all other bloggers, an idiot. Usually a self-righteous prick with a political axe to grind. Tragically, these dullards fail to realize that nobody cares what they think. And no, the 2 comments per post you get on average doesn't count. Get some real opinions, then maybe you'll get some real feedback.

Warblogging: The act of writing amateur, unfounded, and borderline illiterate opinions about war and war strategy.

iPod: This is one of those inventions that makes people say: "why didn't I think of that?" On news shows anyway. One of the anchors on FOX News said "now the music industry is waiting for someone to come along and invent the next iPod." Wow, if only I had thought of the bright idea of putting an mp3 player on a portable hard drive. Damn that's brilliant. I had that idea years ago. I also have another idea: a car that can fly. I will sue anyone who makes it.

I really thought I would dislike Death From Above 1979's remix album: Romance Bloody Romance. I liked, not loved, their first album, so I had mixed feelings about their new(er) stuff. I mean, there are four covers of Romantic Rights?!?, great song, don't get me wrong, but are four covers really necessary? That's a whole lotta one song, especially on a 13 song disc. The only song I could listen to 13 times in a row is Kenny Rogers' The Gambler. His shit rocks. All of the artists that DFAB electro-bring in make them more listenable for the mass non-rockers (like myself) out there and their flare for the original is nice. This is a young band that needs to dive further into different genres. Electronic being the first, instrumental coming later. This album is the balls, despite the rr covers, and is on my top 10 for 2005 list, which I need to get to. Rock on. Here are my favs

Congrats the to the two winners of my Slightly unnoriginal buty totally awesome Supergrass Contest. That's a mouthful, and your emails rocked. We had an awesome time in Mich' last weekend and my Hoosiers got hammered. IU scored of the first drive of the game and then fell apart. Mere and I left at halftime to get away from angry, socially ackward Michiganers. Ann Arbor is an awesome town, but Michigan has some different people, thats for sure. Backwoods, angry, fans were all over the stadium and very rude to the fifteen people there wearing red. Whatever, we'll see them during basketball season.

Speaking of which, IU is a top 20 team this year, and God willing, a top 10 team when DJ White makes his way back from a broken foot. Australian Freshman Ben Allen is going to step in nicely and clog the lane until DJ can get healthy. With White, IU has a huge, and I mean huge front court with marginal, young gaurds. Sounds like Duke. Get ready for another final four run kiddos, the hoosier's are loaded. Long day of work, many many pages. Weekend was good. Had fun, but been sick for a good 5 days. Here's a picture of Orton that was in last week's SI. Sure they've won 5 in a row and are lookin good, but he's still the Tool of the Year. Check out the wrinkled-out Doors shirt. Man is he cool or what. Mostly or what. Ryan hit up the Big House. I'm sure he has a review and will then fail to mention that the Hoosiers got riz-olled. Salukis fell by 1 mother-f'n point at Northern Iowa. They just can't win there. Gotta get a win in the next two weeks to make the playoffs. Playoffs?

And for fun, a desktop background of Vasher's amazing run. 108 yards? What a play. The Bears are for real and we'll find out just how real they are this week against the Panthers. Ordered my ticket to Panthers/Falcons 12/4, tis gonna be the balls.

Been listening to the new live Wilco album Kicking Television, good stuff. I'll call Ryan and figure out how to put music up. The new System of A Down is pretty rip snorting as well. Those guys love the thrash.

Coco Rosie and Ann Arbor is a whore...

Coco Rosie's Noah's Ark is an interesting album. Beautiful, lo-fi Bjorkesque vocals covered with scattered melodies make for a wild ride. One look at the album cover, and you can't help but ask questions. First off, what are they trying to do here? Seriously, a unicorn, a rainbow spitting zebra and what looks to be a horse sprouting a third eye are engaged in group sex. Ok. That's weird, yet magical is the first word that comes to mind here, with screwed up comes in a close second. Whatever it might be, it's good. Real good. This album takes a few listens, but when it hits...ohh boy, it's female Devandra and male Antony (get it). Both artists pitch in on the album, so if you like their material, you'll be sure to love this.

The core of the music is made by singers/multi-instrumentalists Sierra and Bianca Cassidy, formerly estranged sisters who bonded over music and made their magical debut in a Paris flat. Their music has a lunatic music box feel that ought to appeal to fans of Bjork and Joanna Newsom, while the lyrics mine transgressive territory more often found in a book by JT LeRoy than a pop song. The true stars of the album are the singers' lovely, ethereal voices, which refract a '30s jazz-blues idiom through a strangely deadened, forever-sad delivery. It's the vocal equivalent of the toymaker's creations from Blade Runner and it is simply beautiful! -Mike McGonigal

Gays in Texas fall short of getting tied to a pick-up truck and drug around the state, the Virginia governor race gets crazy and some small issues pass in a shitty little North Carolina town.

Down in Texas, gays took another strike in their attempt to become equal citizens. In Texas there's only one way for marriage, or two rather. A man and woman or a man and his chosen farm animal. Sheep, goats, cows, hell your horse, whatever, as long as it's not a fuckin gay. If you're gay in Texas, they hate you, plain and simple. Want to get married gays? Too fucking bad. I know when I'm trying to stop gays from getting married I always call in minorities and the KKK. Yikes!

I hear that the Virginia governor race was nuts. Lots of money, coke, Panthers cheerleaders and a jew riding a donkey. Don't really know much about this race, but here's a link on the issues: Sure

The Governator gives it another shot in California. If those people had any idea what is going on, they would get rid of his ass faster than you can say "He'd be president if he were born in the U.S." Which he probably would. New York City's mayor race got hot and heavy. No word yet.

Around here, the $25 million school bond passed. Which means that the schools will get a band-aid for their problems. They could use way more money than that. I have a feeling most of that will go to the football team, the only thing that matters. Some tards won mayor races yadda yadda.

Speaking of the football team, they locked up the number one seed in the playoffs, which means they will host Independence (#6 team in the nation) at home if both teams get that far. I'm there like stink on shit.

Now on to the REAL news.
The Panthers cheerleaders that were mentioned yesterday got straight up canned from the TopCats. This thing snowballed into an Internet craze just between dancing babies and stupid songs that drive you up the wall. The third highest rated story on Charlotte.com in it's 9 year history. The number one e-mailed story on ESPN.com yesterday and even not-so-funny Jay Leno made a joke about it.

NFL's hottest action this week

Oh baby, screw football, the hottest story in the NFL this week has to do with two smokin hottie Carolina Panthers' cheerleaders. Turns out these two were going at it in a bathroom stall, giggity, and got into a fight with some local patrons in Tampa. I saw the biznitch that got drilled in the face on the Charlotte news last night. She was stupid, to say the least.
By the way, this was the lead on all the Charlotte 11-o-clock news programs. Stupid bitches.

Now I don't like to get all pervy, but this story is too good to pass up. One was 20 and the other 26, both hot? Having sex in a bathroom stall? Bettie Joe Tampa gets all pissed off cause she's gotta, uh, piss and ends up getting punched in the face. 20-year-old goes to jail for using a fake ID. Giggity giggity, giggity goo. This is hot, and a complete PR nightmare for the Panthers.

Okkervil River will be in Chicago on Sunday night, along with The Minus Story, at the Abbey Pub . I'm a sucker for banjos and pedal steel, so I like these guys more than most of the blahtastic indie bands that float around on the internet (via ohmyrockness)

Okkervil River has been accurately compared to Neutral Milk Hotel, Will Oldham, Bright Eyes and even Johnny Cash. Singer Will Robinson Sheff composes stirring stories straight from the heartland. These are avant-folk tales rich in the most wonderful kind of sadness.Okkervil River is for people who are ok with being down every now and then. While primarily relying on his acoustic guitar to bare his soul, Sheff also incorporates banjos, pedal steels, fiddles, horns and a Wurlitzer to give his songs extra depth. Sheff's earnest, introspective lyrics often deal with the dark and dysfunctional, yet the complex, ambitiously orchestrated arrangements are too beautiful to simply dismiss this band as a downer.

Did a NBA fantasy draft last night with a bunch of dentist and I have a pretty stacked team. Missed out on Bron Bron and the first nine picks, but picked up Iverson and Arenas with the 10/11 spots. Gaurd heavy my team will be. Somehow I managed to get Brad Miller and D. Howard, so I think I'll have a better year in basketball than I did football (see Culpepper, Lewis, Clayton, etc..). Glad I missed out on Felton and May. May, Felton starting over after NCAA title. Did someone say overrated. Felton took some really, really bad shots last night late in the game.

Felton is tallented, but D-Williams will be the the Rook' o' The Year. You heard it here first.

Vigils are played out

Yeah that's right. It seems that every little thing gets a vigil these days. They freakin had a vigil for Rosa Parks down at Southern Illinois University. Don't get me wrong, great idea and all, but vigils have lost the draw. There are vigils for practically everything which has tarnished the vigial image. One vigil that seems OK was when my little sister's pledge friend got hit by a bus, died and they had a vigil. Good enough. But what in the name of all that is vigil worthy does SIU have to do with Rosa Parks? Not a damn thing. Rosa Parks was a great, great woman and she should be celebrated, but a fucking vigil at SIU....oh that is gay.

SIU is totally on my shitlist. First of all they didn't go crazy on Halloween. Bogus. 2000 Halloween was the balls. People tearing shit up and tear gas as far as the nose could smell. Ah, but they did riot for the White Sox winning the World Series. Note to retards at SIU: You are 5 hours south of Chicago and nobody gives two shits about Chicago's weak sister of a baseball team. The Series had the lowest TV ratings ever, and there is a reason for that. Those dumb fucks at SIU wanted to tear down the goalpost at the football field. 300 people wasted and ready to go. Here's an idea: everyone in that group please kill yourself with a sharp object, roadside Iraq bomb or just run into traffic. Ah that diploma looks awesome now. Take that you Harvard faggots. Richmond Raiders moved up to 36 in the nation. Independence out of Charlotte (where Chris Leak of Florida and the majority of the Georgia Bulldogs are from) are number 6. Not the ranking these people had hoped for, but it's a start. The MLB on the Raiders signed with UNC last week and the word on the street is that the RB is getting looked at by The Ohio State, Michigan, Tennessee, USC (the bad one in S.C.) and most of the N.C. schools.

The Cure, the Rapture, and Belle & Sebastian are terrific bands, but would you really want to toss them all in one blender? This Athens, Ga., outfit does just that, and the result is surprisingly smooth and fresh. Mix the soft, intimate vocals of B&S with DFA-style house beats and Robert Smith's expansive moods, and you're en route to Venice.

Spurred on by the finish of my mid-terms, I decided to finally finish Nick Flynn's Another Bullshit Night in Suck City. Great book. Read it if you haven't allready.

If you said said Minnesota, you must have been on a yacht blowing lines with Fred Smoot off a hooker’s ass. Sports Illustrated had a dec’ article about the “Love Boat” this week. Turns out the Vikings are just trying to “keep the ship afloat” ahhahaa.

Well, it's finally here Chicago, no not my return from blog absence, but the World Series. Lets go with overhyped.com/madtraffic. Compliments of some very un-inspired baseball by my St. Louis Cardinals, the Houston Astros make a visit to the un-friendly confines known as the Cell, or US Cellular Field, or our park sucks and every one bee-lines it for the red line post game, whatever you want to call it guy. I think the Sox have a real chance to win this thing, and that is fantastic. I love watching Cubs fans suffer.

Only 4,000 tickets were sold to sox fans (the rest were gobbled up by corporate america), and I'm not sure how I feel about that. Looks like the "man gets to watch baseball games..." Seriously, though, that's about on par with the size of crowds that went to ball games earlier this year when the white sox weren't a favorite to make a pennate run, much less a trip to the world series for the first time in a bazillion years. The south side (where I live) isn't crazy at all. Even after the sox clinched, there were only a few isolated parties (televised) and I only heard a couple of people cheering from their apartments. Come to think of it, those people might have been drunk homeless people who don't even watch baseball.. I live no less than two miles north of U.S. Cellular.... It's sad, I know. If the Cubs were in the series (which will NEVER happen), it would be chaos. Pure anna nicole chaos. Not the case for the Sox. Their fan base is blue collared like a mofo and I respect that, so lets go sox. If AJ Pierzynski (sp?) wouln't stop believing, then neither will I.

Chicago isn't a "sox town" like the Mayor wants it to be. The Picasso sculpture wearing a sox hat, the lion gaurding the art institute wearing a hat, and the bronze statues at congress parkway with white sox on all seem forced and thrown together. It's nice that the city is trying to get amped up, but when baseball starts again next April, the entire town will go back to ignoring the south siders (sad face).

The last week of school was crazy. Like five written mid-terms and three/four practicles cutting teeth and doing root canals and what not. Redonk. Didn't sleep much and I'm a bit behind in everything. All is well, though, I only bombed one of the tests, and they still can't kick me out of school, so I'm on my way.

I had another patient this week and it was a trip. The lady comes in with her husband, she's eighty and he's a little older, doesn't speak a word of english, not a friggin word, sits down in the chair and starts rambling in korean. Luckily, my assistant/partner for the experience was korean as well, so she translated. All I could say to the lady was "open" "smile" and "thank you" in korean (my Korean isn't soo good, come to think of it, my english isn't so good either). Anyway, we finally get her in the chair and look through a grocery bag of medicines that she had broughten with her, only to find a crazy shopping list of meds. We're talking anti-convulsants, plattlete aggregators, asian herbs, you name it, the lady was ingesting it. To make matters worse, she had lost considerable weight (20+ pounds) in the past year and had no idea about any of her ailments. Apparently it's common practice in Korea for husbands to keep medical results/illnesses from their wives because they do not want them to "worry about their problems.." That's an entirely different argument, but after two hours and a MD consult, we finally got her in the chair and started looking around her mouth.

Super nice lady, didn't move a bit when I probed her gums and never said a word. So I'm working my way around her mouth and I touch two of her front teeth and almost knock the bastards out. I didn't have brown scrubs on, but I wish I did, you get the idea. Teeth are moving big time. I pull down on both of them (they were two crowns cemented together) and see a bunch of bacteria (a cavity) just seeping out. I held my puke back and re-adjusted the two masks I had on. We take an x-ray and call over like fourteen doctors to get an idea of what I can do. Dental school is rediculously political and it takes ten different dildo doctors to make a decision that I probably could have made in fifteen minutes. Three hours later we finally decide that she'll need surgery (oral) and we had to get her off some of her meds. None of the doctors hovering around my chair noticed that the lady had a fractured post that would need to be addressed as well. Here's how the conversation goes conserning that (looking at an x-ray):

Me: "Umm, I think that that post might be fractured, look at the CEJ."
Doctors (14): "Blah, blah, grumble, grumble, we can't make decisions..."
Me: "We might want to look at that"
Doctors (14): "Blah, I'm important, blah, I did a GPR"
Me: "Ok, just an idea..."
Doctors (14): "Ohh, that is fractured, that's a good pickup, now we'll go back to ignorning you.."

I FINALLY passed my patient on to an older student and made my way home at about 6:00, five hours after I started working with the poor lady. If dental school isn't the most disorganized, politically based training in the world, I dont' know what is. It's like cosmotology school with more nasty shit and tons of anal advanced degree specialists.

Special thanks to kyle for updatin' the blog big time this week while I took some personal time away. Anyone ever feel bad about not updating their blog regularly? Me neither. That's weird. Kyle is funnier and more creative than I am, so he's naturally a better blogger. Send him emails with stuff like "kyle you're soo witty and good at photoshopping baseball hats on evil tyrants..." He'd like that.

Haven't really been into any music this week, which is sad, but the white sox picked Journey's "Don't Stop Believin" as their theme song for the world series. That is sad and hillarious. I'm guessing that fans of 80's cheese-dick rock are super pissed. So for all of you, lets play some baseball.

Big day of college football tomorrow, but no way it tops last week's madness. Big games to watch tomorrow include Illinois hosting Penn. State. Laughter, haha. Texas Tech and Texas go at it. Both 6-0, money's on Texas. Bama gets a huge test from rival Tennessee. Will the Tide continue to roll? Auburn vs. LSU is about the only other game worth mentioning. Wait, the Lord's team — the Indiana Hoosiers — get the Buckeyes at home. Can you say "the party's over"?

Sitting here waiting for the high school football crew to get back and do their thing. How many high schools have four people go to the games to cover it? Answer, probably not very many.

It's 30 flippin degrees warmer down here than it is in the great northern states. It's warm, and I mean warm for the end of October for a midwest boy trapped in Retardville.

Ole Saddam's trial is off the chain. Big ups to Saddam for taking the trial of the century cake from one Michael Jackson. Man down! It's only going to get stranger.

First off, forgot to mention that the World Beer Festival in Durham last week was an absolute blast. Try drinking 6oz of 300 different beers and talk to me the next day. 3-day hangover.

Well, it had to happen. The ‘Stros took out the beloved Cards tonight. A tear was shed in North Carolina. Game six, game over

Roy Oswalt straight up owned the Redbirds. He was dominant and he sits in the background. A blue-collar guy and now a regular Joe that gets to throw in the World Series.

Biggio and Bagwell have been in Houston since the invention of the wheel, so it’s good to see them get one shot. Most of America will pull for Houston (see the Rocket), but MYCT formally endorses the White Sox and their four horses of pitchers.

Last game at old Busch Stadium. Good and bad. Big game on the SOUTH SIDE! on Saturday. Food for thought: Pujols .333/41 homers/117rbis. Scary good.

And here I was going to post a nasty blog all about how big of a letdown the Cards’ season ended up being after they fell to Houston in game 5 of the NLCS…

I was totally pissed, cursing and ready to break something.
By the grace of the baseball God — whose name shall now be Albert — the Cardinals pulled it out. They were down to their last out, listening to stupid Houston people screaming while Nolan Ryan slouched somewhere. Two on, two outs and “El Hombre” walks to the plate. Lidge makes a weak mistake — Cards own him going into game 6 after yesterday— of a slider and Albert drills it into the Texas sky.

It seems fitting that the semi-balding, ever-blinged Pujulos was wearing a “Who’s your daddy” shirt at the post-game news conference. Anybody leaving Houston tonight has a new daddy. Said he wasn’t looking for Lidge’s nasty-as-it-wanna-be slider, just looking for the ball. He is amazing. Tomorrow is Pujols Day.

What is Nolan Ryan like the face of the Astros forever? He looks all sad. Hope he comes to the Lou to cry his little face off.
These games are killing me. Pins-and-needles all day thinking that the season we just spent following, all 2,000 games or however many they play, are about to end on a Lance Berkman homer. El Hombre? El Yeah.

I worked hard this morning, like really, really hard. I got to school around 7:45 and rocked out for two straight hours doing nothing but root canal work while I listened to Devendra's two albums back to back. I can't believe I missed the boat on this guy. Always saw him as a hippie and never really tried to get into his folky, soft music. But, spurred on by YANP, which I'm sure yah'll read religiously, and the high schooler bloggers...... I delved further into his catalog. Great stuff, you know that allready. Equally as great is Diane Cluck

Diane Cluck’s hauntingly clear voice weaves melodies full of love and pain through her intentionally sparse arrangements of piano, acoustic guitar and harmonium. Perfect as they are, any additional instrumentation would be unnecessary adornments on these "skeleton" songs, as she calls them. Classical training and an obsession with Erik Satie have instilled a tasteful minimalism in Cluck’s work. Until now, her recordings have been self-released, and even now, with this full-length on Important Records, Cluck has only allowed it to be issued in an edition of 500. As a result, this is the fourth installment in Important’s Arts and Crafts series, featuring 11 tracks released in packaging handmade made by the artist.

MYCT has been getting close to 1500 hits/day for over two months now, so umm that's cool and shit.

I've been into the Supergrass album Road to Rouen for a while now. In fact, I think I was the first blogger to get on board with the new sheez waaaay back in July. If that's not further affirmation that I'm the hippest dental student blogger, ever, then I'm not sure what is. Anyway, Shawn from Cornerstone Promotions emailed me earlier this week with some possible freebie Supergrass items including CDs, etc. If you don't have this album yet, shoot me an email and tell me your life story. If I like it, you can have a cd. I'm guessing that a lot of bloggers are getting similar emails to the one I received because Dodge is having a Supergrass contest. That is cool, spread the music via the blogs...that's the idea, right?

When Mac McCaughan, former lead singer of the disbanded Superchunk, started Portastatic as a side project some 10+ years ago, I'm assuming that he never thought it would become his full time endevor. Following the demise of Superchunk, McCaughan went on to run Merge Records and make a few noteworthy albums with his new band. Jim Wilbur, also of Superchunk fame plays bass, so you know it's good.

Their latest album, Bright Ideas, (via Merge) is delightful indie pop trinket with enough up tempo pep to satisfy even the the most ADD stricken hipster.. Putting their record on and jamming out to the keyboards makes me feel good all over, in a non sexual way, of course. Give it a run if you're a fan of Superchunk or jumpy pop music.

Dude, if Chris Walla from Death Cab likes a band, then by God, so do I. Psyche. Walla's affirmation of a group doesn't carry any weight here at MYCT, so he's lucky that we happen to enjoy the music of the band Youth Group, who open up for the Cab here in Chicago this evening. Via the OC, like most bloggable bands, their indie pop is easy, charming, and melodic enough to make you glad that Coldplay still has a huge influence worldwide. They hail from down under and describe themselves as being at the forefront of an: "exciting new era in Australian alternative music" whatever that is. I thought the Australian scene ended when Silverchair died (anyone remember how much those chaps rocked?).

Skeleton Jar is the bands second album and the first to be released in the US. Left field, yet highly emotive lyrics navigate their way across varied landscapes of pop, folk, and indie rock terrain. The beauty of this album is that every note is well-placed, every strum thought through, economic in the precision of the pop-coated anger. If the darkened cover and alienated artwork don't tip you early, this is a dark album. Tightened, taut even, Toby Martin's unmistakably melancholic voice remains pure and potent throughout.

Just another day in Minnersoter, heh...

Anyone see this? The Vikes had a massive sex party with drugs and hookers and what not. And people are surprised!?! It's the NFL, where you can either kill someone, sell drugs, or have orgies and still play on Sunday. No wonder Minnesota sucks soo bad this year. It's like Miami but with snow and fishing.

The White Sox..... doesn't look like their small ball works against the Los Angeles Angles of Anaheim in California, USA. Couldn't steal a base if you paid them. De Luca thinks that the series will go seven and judging by last night's game, I'm pretty sure it will as well. Even matchup all around. Podsednick is overrated, big time. Molina, on the other hand, is underrated big time. If his little brother pans out and hits in the playoffs like he has been, then the Cards have a stud in the waiting my friends. I thought Scotty sucked in Milwaukee, think how good the Sox would be with Lee killing the ball.

Fockin' Mariotti. Daley thinks that the Sox can never compete with the Cubs because they "are not run by a major corporation (Tribune Co.). He's right, but I'm an implanted Sox fan so Old Jay and the Mayor can go straight to hell.

Lets see what the redbirds can do tonight against Houston's big three who will pitch six games throughout the series. Win, that's what they'll do.

What's up with TV this year? Nip/Tuck completely sucks, The West Wing is on the downslide, The OC blows, Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy aren't the same.....the list goes on and on. Maybe it's that I"m getting older, but the only two shows I regularly Tivo anymore are My Name is Earl and The Office. Funny sheez.

I visited a dental office for an appointment for the first time in well over a year yesterday (make sure you're going every six months kiddos), and it was an eye opening experience. The doc had some kick ass machines/computer programs and was more than happy to show me around/teach me a few things. Very cool. It excited me in a total nerdy dental way, and I'm stoked that some day i'll get to play with wicked little gadjets like lasers and cerec machines. Check out this guy on the left. It's awesome. Mills a crown in office, lets you place it in one visit...no need to put on a temp crown/send stuff to the lab. By the time i'm making real money (five/ten years post 2008) it should be the standard of care. Good times yah'll.

Uhh yah, we're better than Purdue..

Here is where I would normally explain my blogging absence, but let's just put it this way: Dental School is kicking my white ass. Removable partial denture exam tomorrow, three tests last week, and five tests next week. As if I didn't have enough lab work to catch up on. Whatever, 2008, that's all I care about. I had my first patient last week and it went really well. Nice lady, 50ish with only 12 remaining teeth. I took out here partial denture and gave her a cleaning/probing depth schpeal. She actually really appreciated my help and was more than happy to talk about her family/the white sox, etc. I'm so much better clinically than all of the ubber nerds in my class. In fact, I had to help one of the girls that will prob. be top ten in our class (think super quiet hardworking Asian girl) explain to her patient that we needed $12.00 from her since she was on public aide. I've come to the realization that the super smart kids aren't going to make any money when we all graduate and move on to our respective practices (hopefully mine will be out west). If that's the case, I'm gonna be rich.

Aside from the hell that is dental school, it's been a good few days. Mere and I made it down to Bloomington (or B-Town for those in the know) last weekend and had one hell of a time at homecoming. It's exciting to see people actually amped up for Indiana football, for the first time in my life, even though it is Indiana Football. Billboards were all over Indy with shit like "big crowds help win games.." Now that's some advertising. We never actually made it inside to the game (read: tailgating is way more fun), and were both pretty sloshed by noon on Saturday. IU whomped Ron Zook's shitty Illini, duh... so I've been rubbing it in all week here in Illinois. We'll see how good they really are when they play at Iowa next weekend. If they can pull one out in the Pink locker rooms , i'll be stoke. James Hardy (pictured left) is going to be an NFL wideout some day. 6'7" with a 4.4, yah...lets go Bears...We tried to go out Sat. night, but can't drink like we used to. Great day for football, all around. Recovered on Sunday and Monday, but I'm still paying for it today. I suck.

Speaking of sucking. My Bears suck. Straight Suck. They're bad. Personally, I'm hoping they tank the rest of the year and get Matt L. via the first pick in the draft. Cedric Benson looked horrible, and isn't even slated to start this week (Thomas Jones is out! Great....even better). Kyle Orton is destined to coach high school football, and the defense that was supposed to be "one of the top three in the league" according to retard Lovie Smith got torched by Trent Dilfer. Trent fucking Dilfer! That's sad. Shake it up bitch.

My fantasy teams both took a hit this week. I moved Culpepper and got J. Lewis in return in one league...so that's rad. I'm goign to get better w/ D. Davis/Lewis this week, we'll see what happens. Whatever, I don't even care anymore, not sure why I'm talking about it. You probably don't' want to even read this shit. I'm sorry.

Chicago/St. Louis World Series? Hell Yes. It's going to happen and Fox is going to be super pissed. Screw the Yankees. If the cards bullpen can hold up, they're going all the way. You heard it here six months ago.

I've been a little disappointed with this album. Stemming from the numerous Interpol comparisons, and the super England style hype, I thought they would rock some socks. Half right. Descent album with a ton of filler. Interpol they are not.

Fiona Apple - Tymps (The Sick In The Head Song)
The bitch is crazy, but damn can she sing. I've been really into her album lately and it carried me through a horrendous wax up project the past two days. Beautiful stuff from the head case. Don't miss this album, if you have, you suck.

Rolling Stones - Laugh I Nearly Died
They can still rock. I'm serious. Even at 80+ and devoid of most drugs, their music still carries serious weight. This is the best song on the album. Mick is dead on when he's heartbreakingly trying to capture something. I'm surprised his heart is still beating, but damn.

Broken Social Scene - Handjobs For The Holidays
Another album that kind of blows ass. I just don't get their slow, schmoozy singing and don't think that they really talk about anything at all on this album. Pretty similar to the first, but with more mailed in songs. Pitchfork loved it, I didn't. This is the most creatively titled song on an otherwise blase album.

Wolf Parade - You Are A Runner And I Am My Father's Son
This album doesn't disappoint. Rock. Love the whole thing. Special thanks to Kyle for hooking me up with this one, and special thanks to George Carlin who said: "You never see a smiling runner.."

So the Doc at the beautiful UIC medical family practice put me on 60 mgs of Prednisone for a few days to take down the swelling/inflammation around my ankle post bee sting. I've been one mean mother f'er all day. Grumpy, shitty, and generally not interested in anything that has to do with dental school. I have been working out like a mofo lately, though, and am going to do a 20 week training program to set my arse up for a 1/2 ironman sometime next spring. Look out beeyatches. Steroids have always fascinated me, chemically speaking, and they can reek havoc on even the most pristine body (like mine). Not a good thing, not a bad thing....crazy pills.. Now HGH, that's the shit to get.... cough Barry Bonds....cough...

Speaking of baseball. My Redbirds are up 1-0 against the holly fathers and almost blew one yesterday afternoon. I had to take a "personal day" from school to watch the game, but it was well worth it. Reggie Sanders is my God. Didn't see that one coming. 6 RBIs is straight Redonk. Cards role and move on to face hopefully the Braves. We'll see, though, Houston is mega hot... Either way I'm looking forward to a Chicago/St. Louis world series....because, well that would be totally convenient for me.

Quick update here as I study for a huge periodontics test (class is lamo). My beloved Bulls just announced that they have traded the oft-injured and notoriously fat/out of shape center Eddy Curry. I've never really been a big Curry fan, he's lazy and doesn't play up to his potential (especially defensivly) but I was under the impression that theBulls were planning on building around him and Tyson Chandler. Guess I was wrong. Big props to John Paxson who said:

This has been about as uncomfortable and unusual a situation I could ever imagine. We've attempted from Day 1 to do the right thing, and I'm absolutely confident that we have in every way we went about it. And in a lot of ways we've met resistance in trying to gather all the information we feel we need.

I like what Paxson is doing here and think that the Bulls will be a force in the East within 2-3 years. Curry refused to take a DNA, which is his perogative, but all of the local sports talk guys felt that he had allready taken one and didn't like the results.... I'll bet anyone one hundred dollars that his agent had him take a test prior to saying "no." Whatever. If Eddy Curry dies in the middle of Madison Square Garden, it's ole Zeek Thomas' fault. He just loves the Bulls leftovers. Can't wait to see the reunion of Curry and Jamal Crawford...thug city biotch. Thomas, Sweetney, and Jermaine Jackson for Curry....wtf.... is that even a trade? Sorry for the lack of posts recently. I was on a long run Saturday night and was stung ohh about ten times by a bee in the ankle. My entire ankle/lower leg is swollen and itches like a mother. I went to see a doc at the university health center today and I can't tell you how happy I am that I didn't go to med school. Can you imagine, being overworked, dealing with sick, angry people all day....that would suck. Hooray Dental School.

My first fantasy football season has allready seen it's share of ups and downs. In a league with 13 of my dental school friends, I'm in pretty much last place with these guys. Culpepper and Moss are my studs, but other than that I'm hurtin'. It was my first draft and I didn't know much about fantasy football going in. I drafted Tatum Bell in the third round, lol. In a league with fellow blog nerds, I'm in first with a massive underperfomance from Peyton Manning. It's cool though, he'll come around. Gotta love those hicks.

Ohh how I long for the days of Moss/Culpepper.

Big weekend for Mere and I. We're going to do some shopping in the suburbs, a little eating in the suburbs, and ton of endo/oral path in the city. It's a give and take thing. Mere gets to drag me to a mall, and I get to drag her to a brewery. Cool, miss me some micro brews. Sounds like a great time. Gotta get a few bike rides in, too. Have yourself a good weekend. First off, apparently a couple of homeless people were found smoking a "joint" on the couch in the commons/patio area of my apartment complex last night. It's my couch, which I sit on all "college style" and occasionally drink a beer, so I took notice. I can't decide if it's really scary or really hilarious. One part of me says "hey it's cool, homeless people need somewhere safe to do illegal drugs" and the other part says "fuck, better move that couch." Ahh Chicago. Shoulda gone to IU.

Just a few things (20ish) that I realized yesterday during a long day of classes and "ohh doctor this, doctor that".

Dental school is full of slimy, anal, and socially inept tools. Some of which are nicer than others. I'm a much better person than most of these people.
The 22% carbamide peroxide bleach i'm using isn't working well enough.
Not all dentists take care of their teeth. That is gross.

Sorry I haven't been blogging like crazy as of late (per my norm). I had a pediatric dentistry test today and have three or four practical exams coming up within the next week (all my weeks blur together, my life is one continuous school week). Peds is surprisingly interesting and you'd be amazed by the amount of f-ed up sheez that little kids can acquire/produce. I wouln't go into detail, but some of it is nasty with a capital N. Definitely not going to deal with little kids all day, but I'll take my fair share of "good" patients, you know the ones with parents who want braces and white smiles.

I only slept about four hours last night and feel totally strung out today as a result. That's ok, though. Prior to taking my test I had reservations, butt you know the old toofrunner is golden when it comes to working with little kids and what not. Look for better/more updates later this week when I have time, because you know I love you all, each in your own special way (peds line). Show, tell, do baby, show, tell, do.

I'm in love with the new MMJ. It's prob. their best work yet. James is amazing. Far and away my fav album of the year, Sufjan be damned.

Ah the weekend, or the one day that I don't have to work. Thank the good lord for Sunday and the NFL. Some great match ups this weekend including the Bears/Bengals, Patriots/Steelers, Raiders/Philly and who could forget Carolina/Miami. Put $400 on Carolina to win that one via my new bookie. Just kidding.

Went to the Richmond Raiders' game last night. They love it out here. RB is a stud, getting looked at by The Ohio State next weekend. 2nd best team in the state, bunch of tards that they are. Do you belIeve in the Illini? Well, maybe, sort of, but not just yet. Their defense is shotty at best, but the offense looks pretty desce, thus far against Michigan State. Hopefully they can pull one out at home and move up in their Big Ten opener. Naw, prob. not.

Speaking of Big Ten football, my Indiana Hoos' have a week off to prepare for Wisconsin, who is going to get smoked tonight against Michigan, btw, so I'm calling an upset. Coach Hep is starting to get some real players to sign with IU. Matt Mayberry (6'2"/205/4.3) orally committed to Indiana earlier this week and is tearing up the Chicago high school ranks. He picked Indiana over Ok State and Georgia, so that's new territory for Indiana. Usually we get players over Nichols State and Southern Missouri... O you get the idea. Ticket sales are up big time, and people actually care. Indiana will go to a bowl game this year and within the next three years firmly plant themselves in the middle of the big ten. That's improvement people. Don't bash it. A series of 7-4 seasons with an occasional home win over a Michigan or Purdue is the true measure of success for IU. Ger er' done.

As excited as I am for the Hoos', there are a few things that Coach Hep has done at IU that I'm not too stoked about. The rock is one of them. Apparently all of the players touch the piece of stone before each game and Memorial Stadium is now known as the Rock. Uhh...Southern Miss allready had this going, so it's a total ripoff. I'll get some picks when I head down for homecoming.

Holy Shit....My Morning Jacket — Z

First things first, somebody put this up over at some Audiokraft Web site, so grab it fast, slam the cocksuckers' site. I'm sure it'll be taken down soon. Solid stuff, good quality and early. That's how me likes it.

After a couple of listens, I couldn't be happier with this album. They go in a slightly different direction on Z, but boy does it work. Some mellow stuff, some angry. Still jamming like a jam band, but bring it back in true MMJ style. I'll get this up somewhere secure this weekend because ya'll need to hear it.

Took the ole, and I mean ole, Fuji bike up to Southern Pines today for some much-needed work. Gonna cost an arm and a leg — everything costs an arm and a leg up there — but it's worth it. The leaves will be changing soon and it's going to be absolutely beautiful out here. Bike needs two new tires, a rear hub adjustment, some kind of bearing in the crankset, new handlebar tape and cables....there goes the next paycheck.

Southern Pines is like Disney Land to Rockingham's ran down carney rides. A ton of desperate trophy wives walking their children around wearing Gucci sunglasses. If only I were a gardener, I'd be having my way with one of those ladies...oh wait that's the TV show. Haven't been to Pinehurst, the home of the US Open this year, but on TV it looks like one of the most wonderful golfing places in the world. At $750 a round, it better be nice.

Got some coffee at a coffee shop up there. The guy said "hey try this" and gave me a drink with four shots of espresso in it. Still twitching, thank you very much.

Shout out to Jason Semple our newest reader. The Sempdog got a job offer in the Drity D AKA Decatur. Hope you like the smell of open ass or whatever that smell is.

Homecoming around here this weekend, going out to the game tomorrow to experience Raider football. They get so excited and travle hours for JV football, yeah JV freakin football, these people really need lives. "Did it seem like to weeks to you since the Raiders last played," a guy on the radio said today about last week being a bye week. "Seemed like two months to me."

Still looking through boxes for the cable to get some Panther game photos up, no luck. I'll try and throw up some photos of the monster 20-year-old kids that play football here, too. Sure, they can't spell Raiders, but they can hit.

It might take me three our four listens to get into this album, but after a first run through today, it seems to be growing on me. Ryan Adams wants to write romantic country balads, which is fine with me, I'm into that. Unfortunately for Adams, Jacksonville isn't the most romantic city (Jacksonville isn't a heart wrenching city either). Adams isn't Young and he isn't Cash, in fact I'm not sure what he is/wants to be. One hell of an artist, perhaps? Whatever that might be. Pumping out great tunes left and right. I'm more of a Cold Roses fan, but it's good to see him delving further into his roots.

I shot the shit with an oral surgery resident about getting some nitrous over to a group of six guys I was working with because some of their hands were super shaky. Can't seem to find the cord to upload the photos from Charlotte/Panthers game. Oh my frickin gawd it was awesome. Best game of the week in the NFL if you ask me. What a game. Panthers' D put the hurt on Brady's bunch. The Patriots are really missing Weis and Romeo. People were going nuts and drinking like a fish. Had one beer, but $5.50 for a 16oz brew ain't a good deal. The seat wasn't that great, but good enough to see all the action. I'll be headed back 12/4 for the Falcons/Panthers, for sure. Must say, I'm turning into a Panthers fan who still loves DA BEARS!!!!! Speaking of which, how about da Bears? They put the balls on Detroit's face. Hell, they might even win the NFC Central, because that division is about as weak as single ply toilet paper after a long night of drinking.

Sat next to a German guy who'd been in Charlotte for three years. At first he was shy, but he really opened up and we were high-fivin each other toward the end of the first half. A row below was two Patriot fans. Kept yelling in their ears about how terrible New England was and how much the Panthers rock the Southeast party. To the right was a father and son with some of the worst teeth god has ever molded. They were cool though and really into the game. A couple of fights broke out in the crowd between Panther lovers and douche bags supporting the New York Yankees of the NFL. Tom Brady was crying all game, but couldn't pick up the blitz that came from the Panthers.

Best play of the game....Brady fumbles and Peppers picks it up. He then proceeds down the line, holding the ball out the whole way like he's going to score. Didn't get in, but chucked the ball about 10 rows deep into the stands. He's a monster and one of the best defensive players in the league, screw you Indy's D. 2nd best play: a bomb down the middle to Ricky Proel. 3rd best: Big Witherspoon's diving pick-off. Spoon's in a contract year, give him his money.

Scored a Julius Peppers bobble head that sits atop my entertainment center. It's sweet. I'll throw up a pick of him after I find that blasted cable. Charlotte is a neat little town. Not too big, not too small. Reminds me of St. Louis minus baseball. The Carolina name for the Carolina Panthers is totally right on. Followed a large stream of traffic all the way back to Rockingham that had been at the game. 3-4 cars pulled off at Rockingham, Richmond County Raider fans that went to the big show. Speaking of wich, the Raiders are ranked 2nd in 4A, the top division of NC HS football. Indepedence is 1st and ranked like 6th in the nation. Going to my first Raiders game Friday because the boss is going to be out of town. Holla.

Chin omelets galore!

As their name implies, the Lovemakers (via Oakland) are a sexual band that makes new wavish pop music, lets call it new pop. No, that's lame? Ok, pop wave, whatever you want guy.

I have to admit that I tried very, very hard to dislike their album, Times of Romance, and passed it off after a first listen as shitty Duran Duran rippage. But, boy was I wrong. Their music is catchy as hell and if I were a comparison man, I would call it New Pornographers slightly mixed with a little Bravery influenced by Human League. How's that for a comparison. The Bravery might be the shittiest band on earth, btw... The sexual theme gets a little old after a while, but the synth hooks carry their music and make for a solid, solid album. The title track might be the best of the bunch, as it chronicles passionate lovers heading downhill driven by violins. Check these guys out.

This weekend was full of mixed results. My fantasy team won again (barely) with a just above average perfomance from everyone and zero, yulp zero points from Payton Manning... ohh and one measly point from C. Martin. . I still manhandled Dodge, though,so all is well. Drew Brees, scoff. Ohh and to make matters worse my Indiana Hoosiers trumped, like really trumped the Wildcats over the weekend. Soo... that makes that.. umm... Yellow Teeth 2 - Old Kentucky 0. The Hoosiers are heading in the right direction and are one of only 25 teams at 3-0.

I have Cullpepper in another league, shit Cullpepper. Wow. He's terrible. I had the seventh pick and no choice, he's bad right now...hopefully Curtis Martin can get some stank on his hang down, too, fockin asap.

As Kyle talked about, the Cardinals clinched the NL Central Yesterday at the friendly confines. The Cubs are hoorible. They can't produce runs and have shaky pitching at best. Ohh and they're paying Nomah 8 million dollars this season with even more going to Sammy...what a joke. Cardinals are going to win the world series. Infact I had a guy belch in my face and another guy refuse to take a picture of Meredith and I. Cool. We just clinched the Central Title at out biggest rivals house. Suckers.

Dang-da-da-dang-da-dang-ga-lang-lang. Oh yeah, NL CENTRAL CHAMPIONS ST. LOUIS CARDINALS. And the victory celebration went down at Wrigley, can life get any sweeter? How about rubbin that in the face of all those pansy ass Cubs fans. Get a real team that actually wants to win. Had to come in to work because the boss was "sick" tonight. Oh well, made around $100 and didn't work too hard.

Gotta get ready for the big game in Charlotte tomorrow. Can't wait. Calling it now, Patriots get upset and Charlotte erupts, um yeah right. Patriots are mucho good, there's a little spanish for all the mexicans that I did laundry with today. They don't speak a lick of english. Here's a little tid-bit of information for yah: NC has the 2nd largest population of illegal mexicans. Cool, that'll come up in coversation for yah sometime.

Big ups to Ryan and his white jacket thingie tomorrow. If you need a good dentist to stick his hands in your mouth, call Ryan in a few years. Be takin some photos and throw em up on here at the game. Oh it's going to be sweet. Rod Smart (He Hate Me from the XFL) will be playing, so what more does one need?

Florida over Tennessee, bet there's an uncle of mine that's not too happy about that one. Urban Myer = Urand Legend, ah ESPN, you're so funny. Notre Dame had a good thing going, for two weeks. The Ilini covered their 21.5 underdog spread, but lost in the end. 2-1 ain't bad considering they won a whole game last year. Kelly's choices of houses is narrowing down, what a decision. Salukis lost to 1-A powerhouse, sureeeeee, Western Michigan. Close game, but the Dawgs fall. Did win a T-shirt during a trivia contest on the radio. They come back from a break and say "we have a winner, Lyle McCall, I'm sorry Kyle McCall in Rockingham North Carolina knew....." Some question that I googled and won. Google is sweet.

Panthers vs. Patriots

Ophelia? Weak. My first being close to a hurricane didn't live up to the potentially, well we all know how bad they can be.

Guess who’s going to the Panthers vs. the defending world champion Patriots? If you guessed Kyle McCall, pat yourself on the back because you win. That’s right faithful readers; I got a wild-hair up my arse today at work and ordered a ticket to the big game Sunday in Charlotte. Sure, I’m going by myself, but who cares, I’ll be in a crowd of Panther faithful watching a rematch of the Super Bowl from two years ago. To say I’m excited is an understatement. My love of the NFL is really taking off thanks to, one: being in football land and two: too much Madden on the PS2. Oh, and no Fox Sports Midwest to watch those wonderful Redbirds. Caught a few innings tonight, screw Chicago.

Going out to JC Penny tomorrow to purchase a righteous Julius Peppers T-shirt, score. The ticket was way, way over face value, but who cares. It’s going to be so sweet to see the NFL live, and what a game it’ll be. Patriots took out Moss and Co. last week and the Panthers are trying to stay away from falling into the dreaded 0-2 hole.

Trying to figure out betting lines it impossible. I think, keyword being think, that the Panthers are a slight favorite, but who knows, they may be a big underdog.

Guess who might get to cover the Charlotte/Darlington NASCAR races for our paper now that one of the sports guys is leaving…..me. Well, maybe. The boss has no faith in me and his response to the question of whether we could switch the press pass to my name was “can Kyle even f(*$ing write?” Yeah, he loves me. I could bust out a story twice as good as the one our other guy wrote. Only time will tell if I get that chance.

Cards clinch the Central? Pshhhhhh as if it were ever a question. It’s the year baby. One last in Busch will be very special. If you’re going to the playoffs, I hate you. Just kidding, I’m going to see the 2003 Super Bowl Rematch. Ha. Carp and the Cards are going all the way, and it'll be on TV which means that the freakin Braves won't be on again, and again, and again. Screw you Ted Turner! And, if the good lord grants it, I’ll get to go see the National Championship rematch up at Chapel Hill Nov. 11th. Dee Brown's broken leg and some scrubs vs. who knows on UNC. Almost got my ass kicked last night at a local watering hole after work for defending the Illini. Big ups to Kelly and the U, oh and her new iPod shuffle I sent her for graduation, just a little late on that gift.

Well better get to bed so I can get up, get my ticket to the game from the kind Fedex man, ride my newly cleaned, super-degreased bike like it’s going out of style and work, sans boss, score.

The St. Louis Cardinals are set to start a three game series with quite possibly the worst team in the NL Central, the Chicago Cubs in about half an hour. Normally, at this point in the season I wouldn't care, but since I moved to Chicago my Cardinal pride comes out hardcore during this time of the year (when the Cubs tank and trash another hopeful season).

In case you haven't heard yet, there' a hurricane brewing on the coast of NC. It's sitting on Wilmington and whipping around. Turned on CNN today at work and what do I see? CNN is staying at the hotel we stayed at when Ryan came out to visit. Sweet, now that hotel is famous, sort of. 85mph winds are bringing in some crashing waves. People are getting the hell out of there, and with good reason. I wonder if Ophelia would be getting the coverage it is if it weren't for it's bigger, meaner sister Katrina. Probably not.

Cards lost to the Pirates....Pirates? Still 2 to clinch if my counting is correct.
Hooked grandpa/grandma/dad and anybody else up with four tickets to the first to games of the playoffs down in St. Louis. Friend from high school works in the season ticket office for the Birds, score. Just too bad that I can't actually go. Atleast the Cards will be on TV for once out here. $16 tickets, sounds like a deal.

Stupid sports editor won't write his story and I would like to get on out of here. Boss was out tonight sick so we had an easy night. Took a 2 hour break and busted out a 20 mile ride in some hurricane-esque winds. It felt so good to get back out there. Read about a study that said people actually get depressed when their work outs get cut off. I'll be the first to tell you that the study isn't too far off. Stopped riding for a few, uh, months and my attitude changed somewhat. Now that I'm back at it, couldn't be happier.

I'll throw up some tracks later if I can figure out how you do it.

Running Into Z-Trip

So, I'm hammering out a ride last night just laying into a heavy gear straight headwind when I look up and see a stage with a ton of people in bright yellow shirts running around it. The people were part of Nike's Run Hit Wonder (get it), and the man on the stage was none other than Dj Z-trip, who I wouldn't call a "one hit wonder.". Apparently Fountains of Wayne (I couldn't find their stage), Joan Jett, and the Donnas were also playing. I really lucked out stumbling onto Z-trip in the middle of Grant Park, so it was a nice surprise. I wanted to walk up to him, introduce myself, and let him know that I was a fan, but I was fully clad in spandex.... so he might not have been into that sort of thing.... Half the tool bags running the 10K had no idea who Z-Trip was, but that's their loss. Nike really knows how to put together a race. As they should. Nice course, lots of staff, and a beautiful night in Chicago mix well with good music. Maybe next year I'll just go and walk the course, but only if Poison plays.

Dang, the Atlanta Falcons are for real. Like Mike Vick going to get some Valtrex for his little problem, for real. Didn't get to watch much of the game, only the last 10 minutes, but the Falcons' D is legit as it comes. 2 Legit To Quit, more like it. How about MC Hammer, talk about a comeback. If you haven't seen his commercial, look for it. Atlanta was rocking tonight to no end. The crowd was as rowdy as any crowd this opening weekend and it got to McNabb and Owens. Maybe those two should actually talk to each other. Atlanta was going nuts. Falcons lose to the Saints in the NFC Championship because the Yellow Country Teeth has formally picked the Saints as the team to beat this year. Or atleast I have.

Now I love me some baseball, but the NFL has become America's sport. Maybe it's baseball's long season and long games or maybe it's the large gladiator-like men destroying each other. Either way, it's taken over and there's no looking back. To bad you can't even get a ticket to a stupid Panthers game. You can get a ticket to a Bobcats' game, but they aren't sure where the post-UNC squad will play thanks to hurricane evacuees. Not refugees, damn it, as some people have been sure to point out to the paper.

Bush was in New Orleans today, but he doesn't care. The city will be drained by Oct. 8th, yeah in a month. Their airport opens tomorrow for some light traffic, that's a good sign. Bush is only there for a photo op if you ask me. Screw him.

Ophelia is coming for the coastline of the Carolinas. She's spinning off the coast of S.C., Charleston to be exact. Looks like Wilmington is going to take a beating, but you never know with these things. It's a hurricane, it's a tropical storm, it's a hurricane. If it gets anywhere near Rockingham, I'm getting in the Buick and getting the hell out of here. Back to the north where people are normal. Farmers are complaing about no rain around here, but they are sure about to get plenty of wet weather.

Ethanol is making it's way into the Charlotte area, the Buick could even run on the corn-based shiznit, well some of it.

Uhh yah, so I'm at school doing my thing and this one professor (who i've spoken of before) totally crashes down on my world and was flat out rude to me causing me to redo a ton of shit. Lets just say that I was at school today working on all kinds of stuff for redonk time periods, cool. Our school is soo disorganized. How disorganized? Well, I missed an entire session today along with about ten other people because no one failed to mention that we might have a class in the morning. Cool, thanks UIC, glad I'm getting my $60K worth. Rant over.

Here's a little snippet from tomorrow's paper. Yeah, they pull in some serious money on drug busts around here. This county is the best! The best at getting busted for drugs. Someone...help....me....

Richmond County leads area counties in the amount of money returned from state and federal revenue departments which was collected in illegal drug operations.
Sheriff Dale Furr said Richmond led the counties in May and June with asset forfeitures returned with $43,000. The county gets 75 percent of money from drug seizures and the sale of confiscated property back from the state.
The county led in the past six months in both state and federal returns with $76,000 in that time period.
The county gets an 80 percent return from federal sources.
He said the district includes nine counties with Robeson, Cumberland and Moore counties being larger than Richmond.
“That money will be used in the purchase of equipment for the sheriff’s office and in the war chest against drugs,” Furr said. Some of it will include buying taser guns for all deputies.

After a little run in with a drained battery, the Buick rides again. Sure, it's got fresh tires, but I'm starting to think it's time to get something new and make a car payment. One luxury of working for the man is having a little extra money to toss around monthy on a car. Maybe a year to two-year-old Impala? Who knows, we'll see. If you have any suggestions on a good used car that won't break the bank, feel free to drop a line. Not much of a weekend. Worked yesterday and was very tired today. Getting up tomorrow to ride, something that has been absent in my life and is missed big time.

Bears lost, go figure. Panthers lost too, which furthers my "New Orleans will win the Super Bowl" after what has happened conspiracy. The ole' Panthers run quite the boring, smashmouth — isn't it amazing how much smashmouth gets tossed around in today's NFL landscape — style of football. Their defense sucked. This is probably really hard to swallow if you're a big fan like my buddy Jimbo Dales. Muck Fichigan all day boy. I called this last week, they might even be a little ahead of schedule on the whole national championship thing. Weis is a mad genius. I went to school at Indiana, so by default I'm going to root for Jesus' favorite college team all year. Brady Quinn is going to be a superstar, who woulda thought. It's a little boring watching them play, though, it's total New England slow down control offense/pick your spots, but damn they are good. Their defense surprised the hell out of me today, they looked very solid especially up front. Hart/Henne are overrated, tell me I'm wrong.

Got all of my work done at school early today so I'm out, with nothing to do but ride my bike and watch football. Two O'Clock on the dot..beeyatch. Score! Had to do some work on a set of bleaching trays and a few review root canals.... but i rocked it out along with a few relaxing tracks (see below), I said good day Sir. Anyone else watch Weeds Monday nights on Showtime? I have to admit, I kind of like the show. The first three episodes were pretty soft, but episodes 5 and 6 were both very good with even more hipster approved oc'ish music.Kevin Nealon is hillarious. Like seriously messed up accountant style hillarious. Ohh and Mary-Louise Parker is great as well. Allison Janney (via the West Wing) had me rolling on the floor with her pro de-crim lawyer character last week. Good sheez. Little selection from the upcoming soundtrack. It's Kyle from work again. Sittin here waiting on some stuff to float through the wire. Watching the Cubs vs. Cardinals on Yahoo Sports' gamecast, it's pretty boring. What a brother wouldn't do for some Fox Sports Midwest. Dad's at the game, bet he's having a blast. Hopefully they get him a win in his last trip to the old Busch, not looking good. He said the NEW Busch looks awesome, how sweet is that going to be. Plan on taking a vacation during baseball season and seeing a game at the new haven for God's favorite team, the Cardinals.

Let's see....what's going on around here....Well, one of the sports guys is out of here in a month, guess he's depressed and wants to coach high school baseball back home. Whatever gets yah through the day. The other page designer got a call from a paper back in the PA, so she'll be gone too. This place is clearing out as soon as I arrive. I'll stick it out for a year or so, but then it's "movin on up" time....sing it with me.

Bush wants 51.8 Billion dollars for Hurricane relief. That's a large chunk of change. Bet we'd have more if we weren't fighting those insurgent bastards in Iraq. Bush'll put a jihad on those mo fos.

So I'm back in the blog world, for real, and all is well in Chicago. We celebrated Mere's birtday last night and had a great time. She had ~6 girls over for dinner, and I was the only male there so it was fun, heh. I rocked, seriously rocked through my operative class today. First one done (out of 35ish students) and the two professors I talked to said my work was "perfect." Nice, eat that A-Train (short for asian train, it's horrible, but common I'm the minority). I've been in a singer/songwriter mood/chill mood all day at school, so cheers!

Howdy ho from the NC. Another day, another dollar here at the newspaper. The publisher got all steamed at some ads folks, ripped some stuff down and stormed out saying he'd see his sales team at 8:30 am, no clue what it was about, but it was wild. Slow day on our side of the office. I've been here nearly 3 months and still can't figure out how the phone system works. It's complicated to say the least.

TV's Gilligan passed away today, let's take a moment for Gilligan....OK, much better.

Bush and the Feds are looking into the response into the big shitstorm down in the Big Easy. Care of the NY Times:
President Bush and Congressional leaders vowed today to find out what went wrong in the federal response to Hurricane Katrina, with Mr. Bush declaring that "bureaucracy's not going to stand in the way of getting the job done for the people." And as Congress reconvened, there were predictions that federal spending on relief would be astronomical.

To paraphrase that for all the southern tards down here "George Bush is gonna get-ur-done for the American people."

I'll tell yah what's astronomical, Bush's nearly 20 percent rate of vacation time during his presidency. One fith of his time in office has been spent on his ranch or up in Wyoming. Jeez, the guy sure knows how to take a break.

Rehnquist died, he was old. Now John Roberts gets a shot at being Chief Justice. Nevermind that he's yet to be appointed to the Supreme Court, let him be the top dog. America's political system is about as messed up as the streets of New Orelans. Roberts is a Catholic, make of that what you will.

Won $10 on Miami losing to FSU last night, Go Noles! That was one of the boringest games of all time, but FSU's Xavier Lee got a few snaps. He's a 6'4" 235lb freshman that redshirted last year. 4.3 40-yard dash and can throw the ball 90 yards. Yep, he's got a gun. Too bad he can't play for the Bears this year because they are going to suck on offense. It all kicks off Thursday night with the Raiders at New England. Sunday has the Bears traveling to Washington. Might go to Charlotte and scalp a ticket for the Panthers' game. That'll only be $100!

That's right funboys and girls, the Illini beat Rutgers. They came all the way back from 27-7 to win in overtime. Looks like the orange and blue are buying into Zookie's system. They played hard, never gave up and came out on top of, uh, well Rutgers. The big test will come in two weeks when the line up across from California, picked to finish second in the Pac-10 and challeneg USC. My boy Bruce Weber was there and they gave a shout out to SIU on ESPN2. Probably the only time that the Fightin' Illini will be on television in the Southeast. Oklahoma's season is pretty much over after falling to TCU in the FIRST GAME OF THE YEAR!!!!!! One of my professors from college is from Oklahoma and loves the foozeball down there. Bet he is crying somewhere or drinking heavily. It's going to be a great year of college football, just sucks I'll be working on Saturdays.

Looks like the Big Ten Pillow fight is starting to shape up nicely. My Indiana Hoosiers opened the season with a HUGE (laugh) win over Central Michigan last night. Are they even a D1 school? Either way James Hardy , of basketball fame, had a nice day with five catches for 107 yards while Yamar Washington rushed for 108. Hardy is a stud athlete and is going to own the Big Ten during the upcoming basketball season. On a nice note the Big Ten was 10-0 this weekend, suck it SEC.

Notre Dame is legit. They win a national title in three years. Your heard it here first. I think Charlie Weis could make a great QB out of a heaping pile of dogshit....too bad he can't work with Chad Hutchinson.

Since Ryan's out of town this weekend, I'll post some stuff. Been playing the crap out of the new NASCAR game, yeah I know, get a life or a girlfriend loser. It's a pretty solid game, but there are some glitches. The new feature this year is "Total Team Control." You can switch cars with other guys on your team, tell them to block, follow and a whole lot more, but they usually won't do it. EA also go the crazy idea of using the headset, yes Kyle has a headset mega-nerd style, to allow drivers to talk to their spotter and ask questions, give orders for pitstops and communicate with their team. Of course, it's a bit lacking. They hardly ever understand what you say and they must know it's me playing because they warn me about swearing even before my car rolls onto the track in practice. "Remember" he says, "this game is rate E, for everyone." Tonight the online gaming gets a test. People are hardcore on there and redneck as can be.

Work update: The real world sucks, just decided that. My boss has decided to allow this other girl, she wants to quit, go home earlier while I stay late and do the sports pages. Two sports writers stay and they just sit there surfing the net while I do their work after not taking a break. I told the other designer I was going to take a break last night and she flipped out. "Guess i'll just f'ing do everything, I always do f'ing everything," she said. If only she would find a job elsewhere. Good times. Did get a chance to go out and take some photos which got into the paper. I am now a famous photographer. I'll put one of them up on here later.

How about this hurricane and gas madness? My feelings are that: 1. anyone with money got the hell out of New Orleans etc. while the people who had nothing now really have nothing and what they had is full of water 2. gas is only going super up because everybody tried to fill up on the same day 3. our president is a real winner 4. St. Louis might get the NBA's Hornets, maybe 5. I'm sure "W" will find some way to blame this on terrorists.

As I'm walking down a tunnel today, on the way to pick up a present or two, I realize that no one talks to each other here in Chicago. Granted, I was zoned out with my headphones on, but as I walked down a connection between the Blue Line and the Red Line today I realized that Chicago is nothing more than a giant city where no one acknoledges non-business acquaintances. Chicago is wonderful nine months of the year, don't get me wrong, but coming from a more southern, smaller town, it seems weird that no one cares to say hello or talk to strangers. Must be a city thing. Either way, different indeed. Not bad, just different.

I picked up a copy of Nick Flynn's Another Bullshit Night in Suck City and haven't been able to put it down since I got off the train. I actually read a ton of it during one of my perio lectures today, great, great stuff. Anyone read it?

Dirty On Purpose

In an attempt to continue blogging about bands that don't start their name with the word "the," I'd like to bring up Dirty on purpose. A Brooklyn based five piece, Dirty on Purpose sounds similar to a groggy, spaced out Broken Social Scene, err a less hardcore Pelican . Maybe it's just me, but every band with "chick" vocals (that's a frat term if you aren't familiar) sounds like Stars/BSS. Regardless, it's pleasant rock that is smooth and melodic. Spin's band of the day a few days ago... Their lyrics are solid (on a Jason Mraz scale: I give them a 2/5, with 5/5 being the worst), and they wear traditional hipster clothing so you know it's legit. Touring with Mates of State, Dirty on Purpose will be in New York on September 17th at The Mercury Lounge.

In every fantasy football draft, near the ending, say 14/15 rounds in, there comes a point where you either have to draft purely on name recognition or for personal value. Welp, last weekend I drafted Matt Jones and Pacman Jones (with a honorary 16th pick) because I love the shit out of both their skills. If there are two more exciting rookies in the NFL, let me know and I'll be happy to prove you wrong. I plan on picking them again whenever our little nerdy Blogger Fantasy Football league starts. Also on my list of "faves" are Antwan Randle El, Brandon Llyod, and Courtney Roby. I go to dental school at the U of I, and attended Indiana during undergrad. You get the idea.

Hockey Night

Minneapolis' Hockey Night is a very agreeable band. Featuring two drummers and two guitarists, Hockey Night is a "bread and butter" group with upbeat, perfectly harmonized melodies. In the mold of the Kings of Leon and Pavement, Hockey Night throws down some poppy hooks laced with jumpy rhythms that even Journey would be proud of. In fact, the best description I've seen, thus far, of the band includes a cross between Pavement and the aforementioned Journey. That's what I'm talking about, don't stop belevin'.

So lets pretend that you are sitting there, doing whatever it is that you do, agonizing over and carfully planning every little movement that you make, lets say in a 1.0 mm field, or whatever cubical you work in. Lets just say that. Ok, so now lets say that you work your balls off for 90 minutes doing this nerve racking sheez (that you can barely see), only to have an anal-young-professor come over to your station, take one look, laugh, and tell you to "start the entire thing over." Lets just say that.

Sounds like a shitty scenario.

What a friggin day. Dentistry is filled with more anal stuff than accounting. Seriously, what is the difference between 0.25 flippin' millimeters, when most of the people receiving the work you do will never have any idea as to:
A. How good your work is
B. How much bullshit goes into the finite procedure that you are doing

Hell, most people (myself included) don't floss more than once a month. Seriously, my "goal practice" involves me doing good work, at a descent pace, with zero patients in pain. I'm pretty steadfast on the first two, the last one depends on how much crap I get in Dental School. That's the goal. Oh and by the way, I fockin' rocked the second prep. Showed the prof' biotch, and walked out. Sort of ;) Dental school faculty are nothing more than chin omletes in this Peter North's book. Lets just say that.

Yesterday's first annual Dental School Fantasy football draft was a smashing success, if I must say so. Starting the festivites at 12:00, we tapped a keg and everyone rolled in around 2:00. The majority of us were not sober by 4 but our teams worked out well...crazy. 14 people in total rocking out at my apartment was quite a sight to see. Everyone took the draft seriously, save a few renobs who know nothing about football, and I came out with a pretty solid team. Couple of highlights include two guys drafting "Willie McGee" and "Terry Holt," and Michale Vick going in the first round, was some good sheez, LOL. Here's a look at my team, which is pretty stocked at the QB/WR position, but lacks something special in the RB department:

QB: Daunte Culpepper/Drew Bledsoe
RB: Dunn, Bell, Droughns, Travis Henry
WR: Moss, Clayton, Mike Williams, Jimmy Smith,
TE: Wiggins, Matt Jones
K: Kaeding
Def: Minnesota

It was tough with a 14 team draft to get a lot of studs, but I'm hoping that one of my four RBs has a killer, breakout year. I really like my Matt Jones pick in the 14th round, that guy is going to be a stud. Maybe not this year, but soon. Hopefully I can move Bledsoe when people need a starting QB...should be a fun year.

Kyle Orten should be the Bears starting QB by next week. I told you a month ago that he would be the next Montana...let the hype machine start now.

In other football news, Illinoise is putting together quite a recruiting class. Say what you will about Ron Zook, I personally think the guy is a tool, but he can recruit. Isiah WilliamsQB for Chicago Vocational is probably one of the better recruits to sign with Illinois in a loooooong time. Fast kid, huge upside. Zook has Chicago locked up, which is a great thing for the Illini. It will be interesting to watch Zook and Charlie Weis battle it out for the same area recruits while I still live here.

Kenseth takes Bristol, Blaney 23rd

Bristol is one bad track. With the bumping and running, and the grudges, it’s out of control. NASCAR’s toughest ticket draws 160,000 and those beer-guzzling fans are not let down. The track is a half-mile and it’s full of excitement. There were plenty of crashes and angry drivers tonight, this is one fantastic sport.
All the hope of Rusty Wallace taking the flag during his last call at Bristol were squashed by bad pitting strategies, Dale Jr. fought back to climb into the top ten, for the race that is. Gordon ran well and is in the chase, but the McCall’s family favorite Dave Blaney (07) didn’t end so well. He started 4th, but ended 23rd. Jack Daniels on the other hand still rocks the party.
Matt Kenseth took the checkered, a race he desperately needed. His crew was on point this evening and helped him to one of NASCAR’s most exciting races. He’s still boring and I’m not sure that I give to stinks of a fart about him.
I wasn’t a big fan of the paint-swapping sport until I moved to North Carolina. Now, I can’t get enough. It’s only a matter of time until I buy a Dodge Charger (how sweet they are, what’s a good price on one grandpa?) or a Monte Carlo and race down a local highway. Racing, er uh, racin’ in the south is a little more complex than I gave it credit for. It’s not just the driver, there’s a lot more involved.
Anyway, go Cards, good luck Bears and LeBron was at the race tonight, proving that NASCAR is moving into another world. It’s a shame that it took this long for me to jump onto the bandwagon. The Dave Blaney bandwagon that is.
